Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy are the backbone of the “Law” contained in the Torah, the Jewish Scriptures. This study examines the origins of the mosaic ritual law, the codification of the natural moral law in the Ten Commandments, and the adventures of the Israelites from Egypt to the Promised Land through the desert under the leadership of Moses. Hopeless slavery and miraculous deliverance in Egypt, important lessons on trust and obedience in God experienced at the Red Sea, the theophany at Sinai, the abominations of the Golden Calf and Baal of Peor, countless rebellions, the Tabernacle, and the sight of the Promised Land, all contribute to teach Israel the resounding truth that echoes down to us: “Hear O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is One.” Through cycles of rebellion, discipline, and outright divine revelation, see how our Israelite predecessors were not that different from us and glean practical applications for your own life, beginning with “and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might.”
